Larry Balle II, M.D., M.P.H. is a primary care sports medicine physician who joined UAMS in April 2020. Prior to joining UAMS he worked with a private practice and as a team physician for the University of Arkansas. Prior to this he finished his sports medicine fellowship at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Northwest Campus Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in Fayetteville, AR under the mentorship of Dr. Ramon Ylanan.
Background
Over the past several years he has provided sports medicine care and coverage in Northwest Arkansas for all University of Arkansas Razorback athletics, Shiloh Christian high school, Springdale, Har-Ber, and Fayetteville high schools, The Eurekan Sports Festival, Joe Martin Stage Race, Hogeye Marathon, Iron Pig Festival Duathlon, Professional Bull Riding, and several other local events while also reaching out to the community to provide mass event coverage and give evidence-based sports medicine lectures.

His focus encompasses comprehensive sports medicine care including regenerative medicine (“stem cell” therapy), diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, concussion and return to play protocol, sports optimization, as well as muscle, tendon, and bone injuries. Dr. Balle also has a special interest in cell therapy and regenerative medicine, platelet rich plasma and bone marrow aspirate, to heal injuries naturally through your own body’s cells and growth factors. While in fellowship training, he trained extensively in regenerative medicine and office based ultrasound procedures that heal certain injuries without surgery. He also has an interest in the musculoskeletal mechanics and how to adjust or adapt athletic mechanics to recover from and prevent future injuries.
Comprehensive Sports Medicine Care
Dr. Balle holds a specialty certificate of added qualifications in primary care sports medicine and is licensed to practice medicine in Arkansas and Texas. He is an active member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

He completed his family and community medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX in the Texas Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident. He graduated from St. George’s University School of Medicine with dual degree, a medical degree and Master of Public Health with a focus on Epidemiology and in particular substance abuse. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX with a double major undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences and Entomology.
Dr. Balle was drawn to the Northwest Arkansas area through a long time friendship with Dr. Casey Wagner, a former fellowship faculty member, that began before medical school. In his free time Dr. Balle enjoys spending time with his fiance and three dogs. His hobbies include gardening, hunting, fishing, and grilling on his smoker.
