Dr. Wesley Cox is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in disorders of the shoulder and elbow and sports medicine. Dr. Cox, a Fayetteville native and Fayetteville High School alumnus, has been practicing in Northwest Arkansas for 10 years since returning from San Francisco, California.
Background
Dr. Cox received his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology at Auburn University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He then completed medical school in Little Rock at UAMS where he was twice awarded the Washington County Medical Society scholarship and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. After graduating from UAMS with his M.D., he stayed and completed internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery. During residency he received several awards including being named Resident of the Year for the entire UAMS system in 2004. Dr. Cox is a Member of the American Academy of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.

Dr. Cox and his family then traveled to San Francisco to complete fellowship specialty training in shoulder, elbow surgery and sports medicine. He trained with several world-renowned surgeons including those who first reported the ability to repair rotator cuff tears arthroscopically in the 1980s and the designers of the shoulder replacement that is the most commonly used in the world. During his training and in his practice in Fayetteville, Dr. Cox has worked extensively with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes.
Most Common Surgeries
The most common surgeries Dr. Cox performs include arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, cartilage repairs for shoulder dislocations, shoulder replacements including partials, totals, and reverse shoulder replacements, elbow reconstruction including Tommy-John ligament repair, and shoulder and elbow trauma and fractures.
Almost all of the surgeries he performs including fracture repair are done arthroscopically and rarely require hospitalization.
Dr. Cox has published journal articles, presented research abroad, and is a faculty instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America “Masters” level courses. He is a clinical educator, lab instructor, and consultant for shoulder replacement surgeries and shoulder arthroscopy." He serves on the surgical advisory board for 2 major orthopedic companies.
